Internship : Master’s level Internship Program

Qualified Master’s level graduate students in social work, psychology and mental health counseling programs are invited to apply for a clinical internship placement with us. The internship program is structured and supports graduate-level trainees in learning the clinical and administrative aspects of working successfully in an out-patient psychotherapy practice. Interns participate in individual supervision and group clinical development. New Directions is an ideal practice for individuals with a special interest in cultivating their clinical skills within a supportive environment that places emphasis on an innovative clinical approach, evidenced based interventions, team collaboration and independent thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly individual clinical supervision
  • Attend monthly clinical development meeting
  • Provide individual counseling, working with people across the lifespan
  • Provide family counseling
  • Facilitate assigned support and/or psychotherapy groups
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and submit paperwork in a timely manner
  • Attend in-service, continuing education, and training programs as assigned
  • Seek out supervision beyond these requirements as needed
  • Assist in maintaining a professional, clean, and well-organized work environment
  • Ensure internship paperwork is completed in a timely manner
  • Arrive on time, dress professionally and maintain professional decorum

Education, Training, and Other Requirements

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
  • Be enrolled in a regionally accredited Master’s program in behavioral health field
  • Completion of a pre-internship fieldwork or practicum experience
  • Sensitivity and willingness to work with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications
